Last week, Raketech, the leading online affiliate and content marketing company, announced that its chairman, Ulrik Bengtsson, would be stepping down from his role. At the time, the company confirmed that the executive had accepted a full-time CEO role with an international company.
On Monday, Sun International Limited, the premier entertainment and holiday destination company that has a presence in eight countries, announced that Bengtsson will be its new chief executive.
Sun International’s Anthony Leeming to Step Down from Chief Executive Role
The company notified its shareholders that Bengtsson would be succeeding the current chief executive, Anthony Leeming, who has given notice that he will be stepping down from his role. Per Sun International’s announcement, Leeming’s retirement would be in effect from December 31, 2025. The company confirmed that its existing executive has chosen to “pursue various personal opportunities outside of the group.”
Bengtsson would be assuming the role of chief executive effective from July 1, 2025, or if possible, at an earlier date contingent on him securing the relevant work permit. Besides Raketech, Bengtsson holds senior-level roles at Gamenation and Hostelworld plc, positions, which according to Sun International’s announcement, he would “retire from in order to relocate to South Africa and assume the role of chief executive.”
Bengtsson’s extensive experience includes important senior-level roles with William Hill and Betsson. Under his guidance, William Hill was sold to Caesars in a multi-billion-dollar deal. On the other hand, the company’s European assets were obtained by 888 Holdings in another billion-dollar acquisition.
The incoming chief executive at Sun International shared his excitement and revealed: “Sun International is an iconic leisure group with a proud heritage, and a unique growth opportunity to become a leading omnichannel player in the rapidly evolving global gaming landscape.”
Bengtsson added: “I am thrilled to bring my experience and expertise to this fantastic organization as Chief Executive and look forward to working with the board and colleagues to drive its continued success and chart a bold path forward into the future.”
Under Leeming’s Guidance, the Company Reached a Number of Important Milestones
It was back in 1999 when Leeming first joined Sun International. At the time, he was appointed to the role of group finance manager. He held the role for more than a decade until March 1, 2013, when he was promoted to chief financial officer role. Then, in February 2017, Leeming was elevated to the role of chief executive.
Leeming commented: “It has been an absolute privilege to lead Sun International over the past eight years.” The executive thanked all shareholders and the company’s Board for their dedication and support. “I look forward to working closely with Ulrik during the transition period as he
assumes leadership of the group,” Leeming added. Under Leeming’s guidance, Sun International navigated a range of obstacles, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Ultimately, his strategic guidance, expert advice and dedication, contributed to the growth of Sun International and its entry into the online gambling sector.
